It’s almost the weekend! I think we all deserve a Mommy Break this weekend, how about you? Well, you’re in luck, because two of my favorite girlie movies are now on Blu-ray for the first time ever, and just in time for a girls’ only movie night this weekend!!
Last Tuesday, Sweet Home Alabama hit stores on Blu-ray. Can you believe the film is also celebrating it’s 10th anniversary? That seriously makes me feel old! I’m a big fan of Reese Witherspoon, and this film is one of my favorites of hers. This romantic comedy always makes me want to go find my man and snuggle, a reminder that true love is stronger than circumstances, and that you can’t take the country out of a country girl! Also starring Patrick Dempsey and Josh Lucas, the Sweet Home Alabama Blu-ray (on Amazon for $14.96) also includes a nice set of bonus features: deleted scenes, alternate ending, and the “Mine All Mine” music video. Here’s a quick reminder of what the film is about, plus a couple fun clips including one of my favorite scenes – Baby in a Bar!
Melanie Carmichael, an up and rising fashion designer in New York, has gotten almost everything she wished for since she was little. She has a great career and the JFK-like fiancée of New York City. But when he proposes to her, she doesn’tforget about her family back down South. More importantly, her husband backthere, who refuses to divorce her ever since she sent divorce papers seven years ago. To set matters straight, she decides to go to the south quick and make him sign the papers. When things don’t turn out the way she planned them, she realizes that what she had before in the south was far more perfect than the life she had in New York City.
Ever feel like a good ‘ole crying movie? You know, those movies where you use a whole box of tissues, but you still wanna watch it again! One of my favorite crying movies is Steel Magnolias. I love it because it’s such a powerful movie, full of emotion, full of real life, and it portrays a group of women who come together to weather the storms that come their way, gleaning support and strength from each other. Beaches is another good classic crying movie that also portrays women supporting women, a friendship that lasts through the years.
This classic is now available at a store near for the first-time ever on Blu-ray! The lifelong friendship of CC Bloom and Hillary Whitney in Beaches (on Amazon for $14.96) is one you will never forget, and the performances in this film are fantastic! I first saw Bette Midler in the comedy Big Business. But when I saw her in Beaches years ago, was when I really became a fan. Bette and Barbara Hershey both do an amazing job, and when I got the chance to check out this Blu-ray release, I was reminded of just how much I loved this film! Bonus features include a blooper reel, the “Wind Beneath My Wings”, “Mayim Blalik Remembers”, and more. Here’s a reminder of what the film is about, and a couple clips to enjoy!
