ThinkFun is back with another game giveaway, and a chance for you to find out about one of their all-new games for 2012! A mix between Tetris and a word search puzzle, PathWords Jr. is geared for ages six and up (part of their ThinkFun Jr. line of games), giving them an opportunity to build vocabulary skills, and spatial reasoning skills. It’s clever and unique, and Kylie thinks it’s pretty cool!
PathWords Jr. (retails for $19.99 at www.thinkfun.com) is a single player game, and comes complete with 6 colored game pieces (they look similar to Tetris pieces), a spiral-bound puzzle book with 40 puzzles ranging in difficulty from beginner to expert, and the game grid with built-in storage (My favorite!). Gameplay is pretty simple and takes a few minutes per puzzle depending on your child’s skill level. The challenge is to find words within the grid of letters (the puzzles offer a variety of different grid shapes to prevent monotony). When you find a word, you cover it with one of the colored pieces, until you have found all the words and the pieces fit together like in a game of Tetris.
There are helps on each puzzle page including a listing of the pieces you will need for that particular puzzle, and helps on what words you are looking for. Obviously, the harder the puzzle, the less helps you get. Kylie likes the challenge, and since she is nine, she has flown through the beginner puzzles pretty quickly. The game is also challenging for John David, but fun enough that he keeps wanting to play! It’s the perfect combination of puzzle fun and educational value. Check out this video, for a more in-depth look into how the game is played…
